For the adoption paperwork Robb and I both need to have thorough physicals done. Well, yesterday we went to do the lab part of it. When I called to make the appointment the lady at the desk asked what tests needed to be done. After about 2 minutes of reading off all of the things we needed to be tested for, she told me I better bring in a copy of the medical sheets so she doesn't miss anything. We needed to be tested for everything from HIV to Syphilis! After 5 viles of blood out of my arm, the nurse thought she had enough to cover all of the tests needed. Now, for those of you that don't know me, I am a TOTAL WIMP when it comes to giving blood! I have to lay down for the process and remain that way until about 20 minutes AFTER the procedure. Yesterday was a little different since they had to take so much blood. I tried to get up once but soon started seeing double so laid back down. Luckily Robb was with me, since he had already done his test without any problems. (go figure!) Honestly, I felt like crap the rest of the day, but was so relieved that the bad part of the physical was over and it meant one step closer to our little girl! Just when I started to perk up a little, the nurse called and said that my hemoglobin was low and they needed MORE BLOOD to find out what was causing the anemia. I told them that I had had trouble with this during my pregnancies and just needed extra iron. The thorough doc that we have still wanted to run some tests just to rule out anything else. So....tomorrow morning I am going back to that blasted lab and give a little more from my veins! Wish me luck!

A visit to the doctor...

Oh my word! I feel for you. Really, I do. I had 13 vials taken from me in one visit when doctors were trying to figure out whether I have a form of rheumatoid arthritis. Here's the kicker, they still DON'T KNOW. :-/
Best wishes on your second visit. Maybe you can ask for a cookie and some juice after they take the blood(?) Just a suggestion ....
;-)
Oh! Anytime you want Wiggles information, you just let me know.
good idea to take Robb with you...it's so embarrassing to have total strangers pick you up off the floor and wipe the drool off your face...this seems to happen to me whenever I give blood or see my kids bleed. And I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up! Anyways, so sorry you have to go through all this to get my new little niece here, but BUCK UP AND GET ON OUT THERE!
I'm with you...a TOTAL WIMP!
I would rather get 10 shots than give 1 vile of blood!
Good Luck!
i'm a wimp too...however, i imagine that robb's tolerance and your lack there of might have something to do with the fact that you weigh as much as ONE OF ROBB'S LEGS!!!! good grief, you probably lost weight from getting that much blood drawn. ;-)
you are a trooper though, and i know that as you lay there one of the many things going through your mind is your kids. your daughter yet to arrive and your son who has endured his share of needles and pokes.
i love you guys! hope that it's just a big horse pill they put you on...i've been there and done that!
I can totally sympathize with you Teresa. I am afraid of needles. Yes, afraid. I can't believe they need more blood! You said you had this problem when you were pregnant right? HHMMMMM.....
I can't believe they need that much blood, they must really be doing a lot of tests. I pray that it goes better for you today and I hope you are taking someone with you! Good luck!
I feel for you, Teresa. I do NOT like needles. I found out the hard way. At my first pregnancy doctor visit, they had to take 3 vials of blood. Well, it didn't go so well. Half way through the second vial I passed out. When I came to, I found myself heaving/puking in a garbage can with 3 nurses surrounding me, holding my hair back, and a huge scratch down my arm where the needle came out and scratched me as I passed out and doubled over. They put me in a wheelchair and whisked me off to a separate room where they strapped me to a bed and cranked it upside down so the blood would rush to my head and slowly they cranked me back up. I definitely made a first impression but not the kind I wanted. All the nurses were coming in to see if I was ok and talking about me!
I also passed out when I received my first IV while in labor. Thankfully they had me lay down for that!
Wow, Aisha, that is A LOT of blood!
But Teresa, it will be worth it!
HOLY CATS! That is alot of blood. I hope all is well tomorrow after "more blood" is taken. 1 step closer...:)
I read this a little late and I'm sure you're already back home from the doc's office. I hope everything went well and nothing to worry about.
